WARMINSTER, PA, April 17, 2023 – Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line is buzzing with excitement as the community approaches its second year of harvesting fresh honey, on-site. Last year, food Service Director Shawn Fontaine ventured into an extraordinary journey of beekeeping. Inspired by his dedication of serving quality ingredients to senior residents, Fontaine utilized online learning tools to become a certified beekeeper.

“The bees unify our community in a new, exciting way,” says Fontaine, embracing his newly acquired skills. He also plays a key role in managing Main Line’s chef’s garden, providing fresh, pesticide-free produce for the residents. With the introduction of honeybees, the garden and the surrounding acres of lush land will benefit from enhanced pollination, improving both the local ecosystem and the quality of food.

This unique initiative allows seniors to engage with nature by witnessing honeybees in action and even participating in the collection of honeycomb. Since the bees’ arrival, several dozens of mason jars were filled with honey. This honey will enhance the meals of the residents and any surplus is gifted to residents for personal use or to share with their loved ones.
